Why Does Ranger Move Itself Once Powered on?

This article applies to mBot Ranger.

1. Issue Description

After the mBot Ranger is powered and switched on, its motors run automatically even though no program is created online, nor is the machine controlled in real time via an app.

2. Possible Causes

  1. One program was previously uploaded to the machine, and it contains instructions to run the motor after turning on Ranger, causing the product to move on its own after powering on.
  2. This could be due to the change of product building form. For example, you previously built the mBot Ranger in one form(e.g. Nervous Bird), and now you have built it into another form (Land Raider). The hardware (building form) has changed, but the software (firmware of the mainboard) has not, so the mBot Ranger has not yet been successfully switched from previous form to the current one.

3. Troubleshooting Steps

  1. If you haven't updated the firmware after the switch, please refer to the article How to Update mBot Ranger Firmware to refresh it.
  2. If the problem is caused by reason 2, you can change the firmware of the mainboard from another form to the current form. Simply follow the steps below to complete the change.
(1)Turn on the product's Power Switch, open the Makeblock App and select mBot Ranger, then connect the two via Bluetooth.
(2)Click the "Play" section, and then enter the corresponding function page according to the current actual form of the machine:
  • If the mBot Ranger is in the form of Land Raider, select “Drive” mode to operate the machin. If the machine is currently built in other two forms, click to enter the corresponding mode.

  • Click the "Play" section and select "Manual" mode (if available), then run the machine with the joystick setting.
