Ranger Can't Run Straight-line Program

This article applies to the mBot Ranger.

1. Issue Description

When the Ranger is running a program related to straight forward or controlled directly by the App, the product appears to be running deviate or circle in place.

2.  Possible Causes

  1. The original basic speed of the motors on both sides is inconsistent.
  2. The track is installed too tightly, causing one side of the motor to require more power to drive, resulting in offset.
  3. The motor or motor cable is faulty.
  4. The mainboard is faulty, resulting in the inability to drive the motor properly.

3. Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Use the motor power setting block to synchronize the power of the wheels on both sides for testing.
  2. Remove and reinstall the motor and track section. You can try to change the fixing holes of the motor and the metal beam, move the two screws on the both sides motor circled in the picture below in the direction of the arrows by one space, install it and then test if the problem still occurs. (If this does not solve the problem, install the screws back into the original holes).
  3. If the product deflects significantly or circles directly in place, swap the connection ports of the motors on both sides. If the offset/rotation direction changes from clockwise to counterclockwise or vice versa, this proves that one of the motors is defective.
  4. Follow the second step, if the offset direction is the same as before after replacement, then the motherboard or the motor interface may be faulty. When parts replacement is involved, please contact the support team to confirm the operation process.
