How to Update Firmware for mTiny

This article applies to mTiny (including Tap pen).

Please Note:

  1. Please do not format the mTiny disk in macOS to avoid any damage to the product. We recommend to update it via Windows computer if possible.
  2. There are separate firmware versions for both the mTiny robot and the Tap Pen. If you want update the firmware of the remote pen together, you need to pair the robot with the Tap pen. Even if the pairing is unsuccessful, you can update robot first separately, and try to pair it with the Tap pen again and repeat the update process.

Operation Procedures

Step 1: Preparation

  1. Prepare a computer and the USB cable that comes with the product.
  2. Keep both the robot and the tap pen with more than 50% power.

Step 3: Connect Successfully

  1. Connect the mTiny to your computer via the original USB cable. Make sure to connect the mTiny using the end with the mTiny robot icon.
  1. The computer will recognize the mTiny disk after the USB connection is successful. Please open it and you will see a folder named “system”.

Step 4: Remove Old Firmware and Add New

  1. Right-click on the folder “system” and select “Delete” to delete the folder.
  1. Decompress the firmware package downloaded in “Step 2”, find the “system” folder and “audio_mcu_firmware.MVA” file in the extracted directory. Copy and paste the folder and file directly into the mTiny disk.
PS: The firmware package of version 28.01.008.002.t1 only contains the "system" File folder, so just copy it.

Step 5: Disconnect the Device and Start Updating

  1. Click “Eject Removable Disk” to disconnect the data connection and unplug the USB cable from the mTiny robot.
  2. Restart the robot to begin the update. During the upgrade process, the mTiny display will show a logo that the upgrade is in progress. When the upgrade is successful, the mTiny display will show the “✔” logo and make a “hi” sound, then the side will light up green.
Note: If the above phenomenon does not occur, it means that the firmware upgrade is most likely unsuccessful.
